Elder
John Koontz built this home near the Shenandoah River in close proximity to
Alma, VA. As of 2001, nothing was left except the two chimneys. Elder Koontz was
beaten and persecuted for his faith.
Graves
Chapel Church in Stanley, VA contains many of my relatives.
The
rear of Graves Chapel Church. Off to the left of the picture you can see the
four markers for the Suthard Family- Joshua Calvin Suthard, Eliza Jane Parks
Suthard, Evangeline Suthard, and William Suthard.
This
is the cast iron marker for Jacob Roudabush, grandson of Hans Heinrich
Raudenbusch. He is buried in Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton, VA.

Cherry
Hill Farm, built in 1731 by John Snyder and willed to his son James P. Snyder.
The Suthard family lived next door, and eventually Joshua Calvin Suthard and his
wife Eliza J. Parks Suthard lived here to take care of the farm and Snyder. My
maternal Great Grandmother Lula Ann Suthard Roudabush and her husband Robert
Trenton Roudabush lived here until their deaths. During the 30's and 40's, my
mother visited the farm- her father Frank Calvin Roudabush was born here.
My
great grandfather Robert Trenton Roudabush was 18 years old when this document
was written. His father, Peter William Roudabush died, and apparently his wife
Elizabeth Koontz Roudabush was granted $150.00 from the Commonwealth of Virginia
provided that she agreed to raise the children as their guardian since they were
orphaned. At the bottom right are the original signatures of Elizabeth Koontz
Roudabush, John Calvin Roudabush and Major Ashby Roudabush. John and Major were
witnesses to the document as they were both over 21 years of age.
Same
document for David Fenton Roudabush.
Same
document for Charles Roudabush.
Same
document for Hiram Eldridge Roudabush.
Signature
details for Elizabeth Koontz Roudabush, John Calvin Roudabush, and Major Ashby
Roudabush.
